INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / AUGUST 21, 1990 Benefits Bulletin — Great West Life his bulletin will confirm that Douglas College has now concluded negotiations with the carrier to amend the contractual wording of the Great West Life benefit plans to expand the definition of a de- pendent "common-law spouse". Specifically, the wording will eliminate any reference to partners of the opposite sex. The new contractual wording will be: "The term "common-law spouse” means a person who resides with the employee in a com- mon-law relationship which shall be defined as a relationship wherein two persons cohabit for a period of 2 years whereby there is a mutual agreement between such persons that said relationship is a per- manent relationship, exclusive of all other relationships." This change recognizes the College’s intent to abide by both the spirit and language within the Provincial Rights Legislation. This change will be effective July 1, 1990. Anyone wishing enroll- ment procedures or clarifica- tion, please contact Joanne Campbell at Local 5390 no later . This infor- mation will be held in strict con- fidence. Late entrant restrictions will apply to those wishing en- rollment after August 31, 1990. P.S.
