President’s Report Highlights - February On Tuesday evening, February 13, the Articulation Agreements between Douglas College and the Coquitlam School District were formally signed by the Chairs of the respective boards, by the Superintendent of the District, Tom Harris, and myself as President of Douglas College. It was a momentous occasion, accompanied by presentations by teachers, students and faculty. I marks a continuation of collaboration with the school district and marks a true beginning in making seamless educational opportunities a reality for our learners. I continue my work with the Standing Committee On Educational Technology (SCOET). At the last meeting of CEOs, SCOET was successful in establishing a Task Force to formulate policy and strategy for the implementation of learning technologies in the province. We feel it is most important to sort out some of the policy issues as yet unaddressed: who will MNsoe_neorwarin INside Douglas College is published the first Tuesday of every month by the Communications & Marketing Office and the College Duplicating Centre. Work continues in a highly productive and professional way to forge a new British Columbia Open University (BCOU). The BCOU working group reported to the Presidents of the four organizations (OLA, Douglas, Langara, Capilano). It is our hope to have working documents available for presentation to our respective communities by early summer. David Holm, Dean of Science at the University of British Columbia, has been chair of the working group and has been a superb facilitator for such a diverse collectivity. Meetings continue with BC Tel and the Coquitlam School District regarding connectivity issues for our respective i e have had productive discussions on the Virtual Classroom and the Virtual District. I had the pleasure of joining Her Worship, Mayor Betty Toporowski, of New Westminster for lunch in February. We had an opportunity to discuss community development issues and the role of the College in the New Westminster community, both historically and for the future. I have been invited to Nicola Valley Institute of Technology to examine ways that we might share programme and student/faculty exchange opportunities with them. I plan to visit in April, and have asked Betsy Bruyere, First Nations Student Services Coordinator at Douglas College, to accompany me. She has also graciously consented to introduce me to Chiefs of the local First Nations communities. For more information contact Ginny Batke at 527-5439. | Summer Telephone Registration for College Employees Summer 1996 Registration starts in March, 1996 To register for courses in the Summer 1996 semester, please make sure you fit into one of the categories below: 1. If you attended the College in the Winter semester, you can call Chris Walmsley at local 5504, identify yourself as a College employee (leave your name and student number) and indicate that you intend to register for the Summer 1996 semester. 2. If you are a college employee, (with a student number) and plan on registering for the Summer 1996 semester but did not attend classes in the winter, you need to fill out a re-application form. This will re-activate your student number. 3. If you are a College employee, and plan on registering for the Summer 1996 semester, but do not have a student number (you have never ap- plied), complete an Application for Admission form and submit your Official High School Transcript to the Registrar's Office. You will need to pay a $25 application fee if you do not qualify for the free application fee. Be sure to identify yourself as a College employee when applying. /f you are in doubt as to what fee waivers you qualify for as a College employee, please check with the Personnel Office. For priority registration on March 19, you must complete the above as soon as possible. |
