MAD HATTER douglas college © Inter Office Memo Date: _1986 10 28 To: College Faculty From: Ted James, College-Wide P.D. Committee Chairperson Re: Expanded Committee Membership Although previous College-Wide Professional Development Committee members have often laboured hard to organize stimulating P.D. events, there appears to be widespread concern that much could be done to improve the ways in which the College sponsors professional development for faculty. The ability of the Committee to provide an adequate forum to discuss this issue and to implement suitable changes is hampered by the committee's relatively small membership of two "at-large" Faculty Association repre- sentatives and two Senior Administrators, as established under Article 14.03 of the Collective Agreement. Accordingly, the Committee recently put forward a request to have the membership expanded in number to seven in order to better represent all © faculty groups. The proposal was that a new committee would consist of the following: 1 Faculty member from each Division: - Academic - Applied Programs - Community Programs and Services - Educational and Student Services 1 Mid-Manager ] Senior Administrator The Professional Development Consultant - ex officio ‘ This proposal has been accepted by both Management Committee and the DKFA, and a letter of understanding will reflect the resulting amend- ment to the Collective Agreement. Elections for faculty representatives from each division are currently being arranged by the respective Deans. I urge those faculty who have voiced concerns about the existing provision t of professional development activities and funds to declare themselves willing to serve as representatives on this committee. I would be particularly useful to have at least one representative who also sits © on a departmental P.D. committee. The first meeting of the newlyconstituted committee will be Friday, November 7.
