Mad Hatter Page 4 ACCESS LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE (ALRC) Jody Pilling re Clinician #520-5400 Local 2710 The major function of the ALRC is to provide assistance for students with special needs in accessing regular college courses and programs. The aim is to provide services to disabled students who require assessments, individual tutoring, and skill preparation in order to meet course/program requirements. The ALRC is responsible fom: I. Diaqnostic & Assessment Services: The purpose of the psycho-educational assessment process is to identify learning styles/deficits. - Intellectual assessment using standardized intelligence measures - Achievement testing II. Provision of Remedial Assistance: Tutoring is offered to students with learning problems. The content of instruction is developed in close coordination with students' instructors. Examples: - broad skill preparation with an individualized focus - study skills - specific skill development (eg., getting the main idea from a prose passage) - direct tutoring to meet course requirements - exam preparation . IIil.Provision of Workshops for Students IV. Liaison With Students' Instructors: - Adjustments that can be made in the classroom regarding instructional delivery Referral Guidelines: A. Referrals are made through Gladys Loewen, Coordinator of Adult Special Education, Local 2791 B. The service is for "disabled" students, eg., visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically disabled, health problems, emotionally disabled, head injuries, © stroke victims, mentally handicapped, learning disabled.
