Locak 279. ? ae 3 a Fantasy Becomes Reality : t On September 30, 1976 Douglas College , and the Royal Columbian Hospital an- nounced the official opening of the Royal Columbian/Douglas Education Centre. ® The centre will offer educational programs for health workers and health consumers (the public) in the following communities: Burnaby; Coquitlam; Delta; Langley; Maple Ridge; New Westminster; Port Cequitlam; Port Moody; Richmond; Surrey; and White Rock. It will also coordinate the use of Royal Columbian Hospital clinical facilities by health professional students such as the basic nursing students. The centre is the result of a two year cooperative effort on the part of the hospital and the college. The centre has its own board of di- rectors and will function as an autonomous organization. Mrs. ebiEhey MacDonald, member of R.C.H."s board of directors, has been electéd as chairperson of the i) centre' s hoard. The other board members are: Ms. Barbara Racine, Assistant Executive Director, Nursing Practice, R.C.H., Dr. Sheilah Thompson, Director of Health Services Division, D.C.; and Dr. Wendy Fidgeon from the college council. The centre will be staffed. by Kathie Clark, Community Consul- tant, who has been seconded to the centre on a full-time basis, as well as Betty Archer and Sadie Redline who have been seconded from R.C.H. on a half-time basis. The centre will operate out of offices in the R.C.H. School of Nursing at 260 Sherbrooke Street. It will have access to space and facilities in the school.
