COLLEGE EDUCATION COMMITTEE ominations closed on November 6 for two vacant positions on the College Educa- tion Committee. There were no nominations received for Support Staff at Large representative and this position will, therefore, remain vacant. Rod Midgley was nominated as the Faculty at Large repre- sentative and the position is his by acclamation. Rod will serve the remainder of the two year term which expires on August 31, 1988. Rod has been a member of the C.E.C. in the past, and the Committee welcomes the depth and experience he will bring as Faculty representative. - Doug Talling, College Education Committee NEW FACULTY APPOINTMENTS BARBARA DAVISON /arbara, a new addition to the full-time regular teaching staff in the Computer Information Sys- tems program, has taught at Douglas College as contract facul- ty for the past six and a half years. She has also taught BCIT computer courses from 1980 to 1986 in the Continuing Education division, and worked as a com- puter consultant for various companies, designing and writ- ing computer systems. One of her projects included a system for the B.C. Lions which analyzed their offence and defence pat- terns." A lot of help that system did," she says. She graduated from BCIT (1979) with a Diploma of Technol- ogy, and from S.F.U. (1986) with a B.Sc. in Computing Science. Barbara is currently setting up the specifications and finding funding for a new theatre com- pany in Vancouver. She hopes it will be a "nice" alternative to the overpriced, under-rchearsed productions of the Arts Club." She says her other interests in- clude anything not related to computers. NEWS FROM CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION JAPAN EXCHANGE The government of Japan has extended it's JAPAN EX- CHANGE AND TEACHING PROGRAM to Canada. Under the co-sponsorship of the Mini- stries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Home Affairs and the local governments in Japan, this program allows recent university graduates to take up positions as English language teaching assistants in state schools, local boards of education, or as “international activities advisors" in offices of prefectural governments. The positions will be for one year beginning August 1, 1987. Applicants must be fluent in English, be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and must have received an under- graduate degree no more than five years before the post begins. F The recruitment and selec- tion will be handled by the Em- bassy of Japan and Japanese Consulates-General in Canada with assistance from the Awards Division of the Associa- tion of Universities and Col- leges of Canada.
