GEM CRAFT SHOW -OLTOSER 16, 19, 20, 1974 The Lapidary, Rock & Mineral Society of British Columbia is busy planning the best-ever Rock, Gem & Mineral Show to be held in the Pacific Showmart Building, Exhibition Park, Vancouver, B.C. The hours are:- October 18th, 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m; October 19th, 10 a.m. to ll p.m; Uetober 20th, 10 a.m. ta 7 p.m. IN CONNECTION WITH THIS SHOW THE B.C. GOVERNMENT HAS DESIGNATED THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 14 to 20 INCLUSIVE TO BE KNOWN AS "GEMS AND MINERALS WEEK IN BRITISH COLUMBIA". This year's theme is "GEMS CANADA" and there will be displays from all parts of Canada and the Territories. The Provinces will be represented also by Flags, Coats of Arms, Floral Emblems and where possible, Provincial Gemstones. Last year's show was a credit to the Province and this year's show promises to be even better. This show is non-competitive, put on by a non-profit group of hobbyists to encourage others to join in the greatest indoor-outdoor hobby in the world. Our local craftsmen are among the best in Canada and we are truly proud of their accomplishments. We INVITE YOU to attend our show, you will find a great deal to interest you: ask ques= tions, watch the members in action with the hobby. There will be continuous demonstra= tions in Silversmithing, Carving, Lapidary (the cutting and polishing of gemstones), Casting, Faceting, Micro-mounting (a new and fascinating part of the hobby), Opal triplet making. Once again, in response to a number of requests, we will have the B.C. Speleo Research Group with SLIDES & LECTURES on the beauties to be found in Caves. Their program this year is entitled "Cave Preservation & Exploration in B.C." and "The new field of Glacial Cave Exploration". We will program as many showings as possible. Between slide shows you will be able to view the amazing transformation that takes place when BLACK LIGHT is used on rocks. OUR SPECIAL FEATURE DISPLAYS will include -— A TEAM OF ARTISTS FROM IDAR-OBERSTEIN, GERMANY demonstrate their World Famous Carving of precious and semi-precious gemstones == there will be a special display of several cases of their work. They will give a con- tinuous demonstration of carving Cameos and Bowls in Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Onyx, Crys- tal, Lapidolite etc. We will also have the Linde Star "CANADIANA COLLECTION" man-made rubies and sapphires, the centre piece of this collection is the $7,500. necklace, with a magnificent 42 carat star ruby and nearly a hundred diamonds set in 14K white gold. There are many more ex~ quisite pieces in the display also. Other attractions include: - - Pre-Columbian Gold Display from The Devonian Group Charitable Foundation of Calgary, the first time outside of Alberta. - Beautiful and interesting displays by the member Clubs from all over B.C. - Special displays gathered from all over Canada and the U.S.A. - Dealers - where one may purchase the articles of the hobby or a gift. - Raffle - a number of valuable and delightful prizes are planned including a hand= crafted Jade and Silver Pin, a 10K gold ring set with a beautiful Chrysoprase stone. - Silent Auction ~- fun at its best! - Grab Bags — Everyones delight. - Look for your free gift at the door.
