With the new and improved David Lam campus, it’s in room A1301 of the Student Assistance hallway. The Centre is run by the energetic Kim Longmuir who welcomes all women from Douglas College and the public. Longmuir has set up many workshops. The Centre is open from 7:30a.m. - 9:30p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 7:30a.m. - 5p.m. on Fridays. Longmuir put together a successful Open House on September 18 from 10a.m. - 4p.m. Colourful cookies, coffee and a warm atmos- phere were provided. She would like to see an increase of women using the facilities, which include Wenlido (self-defence for women) and the Women’s Homework Club (in conjunc- tion with the Learning Centre). Additional information can be obtained at: < www.douglas.bc.ca/stuserv/women.html >. Women can volunteer at the Centre by sign- ing up on the Volunteer sheet on Longmuir’s door, or speak to her in person. The Women’s Centre also promotes the resources of free computer use. There is only one computer—early arrival is encouraged. Those who must wait can sit on one of the comfy chairs and chat with Longmuir or the other women. The Centre offers a free phone, microwave, teakettle, and a large selection of teas. Longmuir would like to see an increase in donations of non-perishable food and cloth- ing for needy women. Those with donations can see Kim or leave them in the boxes in the Women’s Centre. A wide selection of pamphlets on abuse, self-help, crisis lines, and eating disorders are available. There are also a wide variety of books on the shelves. The Centre encourages contribution of books you are willing to pass on. If you have an idea or a topic for a workshop for women, tell Longmuir or leave a note under her door.
