Royals Named Athietes of Week Douglas College Athletics cameron Wilson ‘ is SOOO good at soccer. mmmm... beer. Men’s Soccer: Cameron Wilson Cam is in his 2nd year at Douglas College. The 5710” North Delta native has started the season right where he left off in 2005. Last season, Cam was the BCCAA Rookie of the Year, BCCAA Player of the Year, BCCAA Leading Goal Scorer and a CCAA All-Canadian. In the opening weekend of league play, Douglas had two very tough opponents. On Saturday, the Royals travelled to Nanaimo to take on the Malaspina Mariners where they ruined the Mariners home opener with a 4-1 victory. The Royals jumped out to an early lead with Cam tallying his 1st goal of the game. Five minutes later, Cam beat the wide midfielder, then the fullback to service a per- fectly timed cross resulting in Douglas’ second goal. In the 50th minute Douglas was down to 10 men when Cam once again took control and scored his second and third goals of the game. On Sunday, Douglas travelled to North Vancouver to take on the Blues. Cam played an integral part scoring another goal and an assist in a 2-0 win. Women’s Soccer: Karley Scrigner Karley is in her 3rd year in the BCCAA and her 2nd year at Douglas College. This 54” Surrey native finished 3rd in scoring last season and has started this years campaign at the top of the table. This past weekend, Karley led Douglas to two road victories against the Malaspina Mariners and Capilano Blues. On Saturday, Karley scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over the Mariners on a well executed free kick. She beat the wall and keeper with a perfectly placed shot low to the corner of the net. On Sunday, Karley scored 3 goals in a 6-2 win over the Blues. On Karley’s first goal, she received a pass from a team mate and used her speed and strength to hold off a Capilano defender before slot- ting the ball into the top right corner of the net. Her second goal was another well placed free kick. Her third goal was similar to her 1st of the game. Karley’s leader- ship combined with her on-field play should go along way in helping the Royals have a successful season. Karley Scringer iS SOOO good at soccer, and | really love beer.
