After being selected as one of only two BC post secondary institutions to take part in the General Motors of Canada Marketing Internship, the students took a unique approach to the challenge. Instead of a single class taking the project on, two classes teamed up. Marketing Research joined forces with Marketing Management to form their own marketing company, Momentum Marketing. ‘The students had to find ways to market GM’s Stand in line electronically with new Waiting in line has just gotten easier for Douglas College students. An electronic wait-list has been added to the Registration System, allowing students to get in line for possible openings in full courses. “This is a huge change, but a good one,” says Ashifa Dhanani, Associate Registrar. “The students who put themselves on the wait- list and show up for the first class are the ones who have made it their first-choice course. Thank you! * The Alumni Association has elected it’s new Board for 2004/2005: President, Brenda Pickard; Vice President, students show drive Chevrolet Equinox to a “Generation Y” demographic. They came up with the sales pitch “Life Fits Here.” After lining up business support and community tie-ins, they staged an event at the New Westminster Campus on November 10. Their goal was to get 600 people to sit in and check out the vehicles — a target they beat with some 612 people taking part. The students also raised about $1,000 for Canuck Place through the sale of raffle tickets. ‘The final report on the campaign was presented by the students on December 6. The experience has helped them while they wait for the course they really want. The wait-list will also shorten the late registration period.” Before the advent of the wait-list, students would go to classes that were full and have the instructor sign an Add/ Drop Form if there was a space. Now, it’s all done electronically through the Registration System. “We need to let as many students as possible know that preplanning is now required,” says Dhanani. “Students have to add Grace Adoo; Treasurer, Heather Campbell. The fourteenth annual after- school event to help increase interest in math, science and technology careers for young women in Grade 11 was held on Wednesday, October 29. Over 60 students attended, most from our catchment areas.
