Department Profile - Public Information Office One of the findings of the recent Unit Review of the Public Information Office was that people wanted to have a clearer understanding of who we are and what we do. In general, the PIO is responsible for communications and marketing for the College. Along with the responsibilities listed below, the manager and staff are all called upon to proof read publica- tions, give tours and organize special events at the College. Brad Barber, Manager Brad is responsible for the planning and implementation of Douglas College’s communications, special events and marketing. He acts as spokesperson and media liaison for the College. He also supervises operations of the PIO. Bruce Livingstone, Marketing Technician Bruce is responsible for producing marketing plans and budgets, designing and placing advertisements in magazines, newspapers and radio as well as purchas- ing outside printing services. Bruce is also responsible for listing events in the INside Events Calendar and for putting messages on the College readerboard. Alan Loo, Graphic Designer Alan works with the Publicist and clients to prepare design proposals for graphic projects and makes recommendations for production specifications. He also pro- duces a wide range of promotional and informational materials such as standard brochures and posters utilizing techniques such as photography, graphic design and The Public Information Office (left to right). Jeff McDonald, Writer Jeff consults with administration, faculty, staff and others outside the College to pro- duce a wide variety of written material. Jeff writes brochure copy and press re- leases for the local media about College programs, events and issues. He contacts the media to help maximize coverage of College events. He also writes and edits INside Douglas College, helps write and edit internal documents such as the Annual Report and does photography. Snacks and beverages are on us! Jane Muskens, Publicist Assistant Using desktop publishing software, Jane produces a variety of materials for College use. These include brochures, booklets, flyers and posters. In addition, she assists the Publicist and clients with a variety of publicity projects. She also maintains the office accounts. Christina Symons, Publicist When people come to the PIO with a request, the first person they should usu- ally meet with is Christina. She will help plan a publicity campaign and explain timelines. Christina coordinates the pro- duction of projects in the PIO such as Access, the Calendar and smaller publica- tions. In addition, she is responsible for proofreading printed materials. Along with other PIO staff, she helps coordinate and publicize special College events. Susan Vincent, PIO Assistant Susan is responsibe for a wide variety of office duties such as the revision and creation of new computer mailing lists, word processing, and assisting in the organizing of special events. She also designs and produces brochures, flyers and newsletters -- including the INside -- using desktop publishing software.
