INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / June 11, 1991 THE BUSINESS DEPARTMENT RETREATS!! since most of us were suffer- ing from “the day after the night before”. Linda Coyle from Kwantlen got us all “discuss- ing” our learn- ing styles. Terresa Augustine from BCTF turned on The Department of Commerce & Business at Whistler L you can believe it, the Depart- ment of Commerce & Business Administration spent two and a half days together at Whistler - and a great time was had by ALL! The complete retreat was incredibly well organized and, UNDER BUDGET. We had noth- ing to do but enjoy ourselves and, of course, attend the workshop sessions. From the moment our bus left on time Wednesday, through to the point when we pulled up in front of the college Friday afternoon, Gerard Edwards, Marian Hill, Patrick Brown and Raymond Yu kept things sailing. From all of us who attended Whistler, we thank our PD committee and everything they did before, during and now after the retreat. Wednesday night, we were in the hands of Chris Johnson who kept us laughing (for the record, I have dark roots not blonde), and participating in various “activities” (my shoes will never be the same). Our sense of humour can be seen just inside the 1300 field base. Thank you Chris, it wouldn't have been the same without you! The workshop sessions on Thursday and Friday were absolutely fantastic. The outside facilitators managed wonderfully some lights at the end of tunnels for the use of com- puters in teaching. Robert Aiken from VCC - City Centre got us to “open our brains” to innovative teaching techniques. All three facilitators were wonderful and we thank them for all their time and effort they put in. Some faculty members also put on workshops to encourage and enlighten fellow members. Special thanks go to Marian Hill and Lorne MacKenzie, Gerard Edwards and Raymond Yu, and Patrick Brown. Thursday night began ona musical note as Ron MacKinnon, (our official paparazzi), “PIPED” us into the dining room with a clas- sic Scottish tune. Joan Schafer did an amazing job at collecting door prizes and flowers. Thank you, Joan, for your work. After dinner, Hank Naylor made a gallant effort to tie together the Coquitlam Cam- pus Planning process. Hank did a great job, as did John McKendry. For those people I have missed and should have thanked, I’m sorry, but we know what you have done! For everyone who was up at Whistler, the effort you put forth did not go unnoticed (pictures are in the 4300 field base). Till next year ..... watch out for the 2000-Ib canary!
