CANaD™ CULTURAL STUDY PROGRAMME IN INDIA Programme objectives To provide teachers (elementary, secondary, college) and other adults interested in India with the opportunity to acquire first- hand information about this country, with an emphasis on Kerala, the fabulous Malabar Coast. This programme will enhance your intercultural awareness and understanding of the Indian educational system through host family stays and direct participation in community and secondary school activities. Programme outline The Mitraniketan Community Development organization (not-for- profit.) in co-operation with AFS India has developed this unique indepth culture study programme exclusively for Interculture Canada participants. A one day pre-departure orientation will he held in Montréal; departure for Bombay will take place the following day. Upon arrival in Bombay, you will have one free day to recover from jet lag and three additional days of orientation including a tour of Bombay. You will go by train to Bangalore, situated in the southern state of Karnataka, where you will be hosted by an Indian family for nine days and introduced to the activities of a local secondary school. From Bangalore you will make your way over a period of four nights to Trivandrum along the Malabar Coast of the state of Kerala by way of train, road and boat, visiting the cities of Cochin, Allepy and Kottayam along the way. In Trivandrum, you will again be hosted by an Indian family for approximately 21 days and introduced to the activities of the Mitraniketan Community Development Centre where you will be able to participate in workshops and seminars on Indian cultural heritage, religion, yoga, etc. Several overnight excursions to places of historical interest will also be organized during your stays in Bangalore and Trivandrum. Your return journey by train to Bombay will be arranged, however several days of independent travel can also be accommodated before departure. A fixed programme schedule will be forwarded upon receipt. of your application. Programme dates Applications should be received by Interculture Canada by April 30th, 1987. This six week programme will begin with a pre- departure orientation on July 2nd and end with a return trip to Canada on August 17th, 1987. Participation fee The participation fee of 3,600 $ includes domestic and international airfare, orientation costs, modest accommodations in India and Canada, administration, and travel insurance for six weeks. Personal expenses, independent. travel, and entertainment. are at the cost of the participant. A 500 $ deposit will be required with the submission of an application to the programme. This amount. will not be refunded in the case of withdrawal after May 30th, 1987, The outstanding balance must be paid before June Ist, 1987.
