The certification comes after an intensive review which included the EASL Department, the Registrar’s Office, Centre for International Education, Facilities and EASL students. “We believe that certification by the CLC will have increasing importance in the recruitment of international students,” says EASL instructor Carol St. Jean. “We won't be able to rest on our laurels either as the review process is every three years.” The Canada Language Council is Canada’s premier language organization representing the two official languages, English and French. St. Jean says accreditation “is a student’s quality assurance guarantee.” "A Class Act" serves up fun and funds Stephi Beaudoin, a Hotel and Restaurant Management second- year student, was part of a team that made the 8th annual “A Class Act” a smashing success. The approximately 300 guests received first class service from a team of HORM students, Foundation and Finance staff at the November 17 event. The evening's proceeds will go towards student aid for the HORM and Athletics programs as well as for Dispensing Opticians and CKNW Orphans’ Fund. Adopt a Student Family for the Holidays The Financial Aid office is asking the Douglas College community to adopt student families for the Holiday season. Departments or individuals choosing to sponsor a family for a hamper will be given general information on the family unit (ages and gender of the children and any gift suggestions they've made). Financial Aid will identify any dietary restrictions such as allergies. oo Hampers should include non-perishable food items and/or gift certificates fora grocery store and small, wrapped gifts for the family. Let Financial Aid know the size of the family you would like to help: small families consist of two people, medium families are three-four people and large families are five-eight members. Dong has a Bachelor of Business Administration from SFU with concentration in Organizational Behaviour and Communications. She also has a Business and Technical Writing Certificate from VCC and a Career Development Practitioner Certificate from Douglas College and is currently a CHRP candidate. She was most recently a Recruitment Coordinator at JP Morgan Chase. Prior to that, she was the ‘Transition Coordinator at the Open Learning Agency. ‘ Facilities: Fernanda Santos is the new Manager, Facilities Services, New Westminster Campus. Santos comes from UBC, where for the past five years she has been a Facilities Manager responsible for Plant Operations, Land and Building Services. She was responsible for contracted cleaning services, renovations, general building services, scheduling and stafhng. Prior to UBC, Santos was employed by Trans Mountain Pipe Line Company Ltd (Terasen Gas) as Facilities Supervisor/ Communication Manager, responsible for space utilization, health and safety, ergonomics, telecommunications, building services and food services. CELT Zeny Nielsen has taken early retirement effective November 16, 2005. Everyone at CEIT thanks Zeny for the many years she contributed to the department and the College.
