The local band, scattered after the Federal Government sold Poplar Island in 1945, is now experiencing a reincarnation thanks to Chief Rhonda’s efforts. She shared the story of her people’s buried history, her concern for the well-being of the entire community and the environment, and her ultimate plans for the the band’s heritage and future: “I envision a reserve that emphasizes education— land with a learning centre and pre- 9 school.”
