INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / DECEMBER 11, 1990 New Director of Labour Relations Joins College PETER SANDERSON takes up his position as Director of Labour Relations. D zz College’s new Director of Labour Relations, Peter Sanderson, says he is pleased to be joining the college as it grows in the 1990s. "Douglas College is expanding and dynamic, with a new campus and other growth, and the college wants an accompanying positive atmosphere in labour relations," said Sanderson. Sanderson, 35, is a native of London, Ont. He attended Car- leton University as an under- graduate and earned his Masters of Industrial Relations at the University of Toronto, where he also worked with the Canadian As- sociation of University Teachers. Sanderson then moved to B.C., working as a labour relations of- ficer in construction and health as- sociations and, most recently, with Canadian Airlines. His responsibilities at Douglas College will include negotiating collective agreements, dealing with official grievances, and over- seeing benefits administration and hiring in personnel. Sanderson says he believes the college’s dynamic growth can be reflected in "creative, innovative and direct" approaches to labour relations issues. "I like to approach bargain- ing from a problem-solving perspective rather that getting entrenched in a bargaining position that gets in the way of solving the problem." & ECO-CUPS A great stocking stuffer!
