INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / DECEMBER 11, 1990 Higher Education For All Is New Officer’s Philosophy he Douglas College Foundation’s new Alumni and Development Officer believes in the philosophy of higher educa- tion for all. “I was really attracted to the way Douglas College strives to in- tegrate international students, stu- dents with disabilities, and single mothers into its programs,” says Brigitte O’Rooney, who was ap- pointed to the position November 1st. Through the Alumni Associa- tion newsletter Connections and the annual Career Fair, O’Rooney plans to make alumni more visible in the community. “T will probably have a tighter focus on individual alumni. In Connections, I hope to feature out- standing alumni who have gone through a specific program and are using skills learned at Douglas College to further their careers,” she says. "In that way, the com- munity will learn about the dif- ferent programs through individuals, and there will also be that tie from the past to the present.” O’Rooney graduated from the BRIGITTE O’ROONEY is the Douglas College Foundation Alumni and Development Officer. University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Art History in 1978. With a back- ground as a researcher, writer, and lecturer on public art, she is sure to add a creative component to Douglas College’s public aware- ness endeavours. @ Scholarship Established to Honour Memory of Jack Ferguson md e was a War Veteran, a Police Inspector, a devoted student, and an influential Professor of Criminology at Douglas College. Jack Ferguson passed away late last August at the age of 69. In honour of Jack Ferguson, the Douglas College Foundation and the Criminology Department have created a scholarship fund. Friends and family remember him as a loving husband and father, as well as an active com- munity member. Colleagues say that Jack Ferguson can be credited for building the Douglas College Criminology Department, which has gained national renown. The Jack Ferguson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to stu- dents who have attained a mini- mum 3.0 Grade Point Average, and shown a commiiment to com- munity service. Preference will be given to Criminology students. Each tax deductible donation to the scholarship fund will be matched by the government and can be processed by Mark Crozet, Director of the Douglas College Foundation at 527-5359. —3—
