WEEKEND WORKSHOP IN PERSONAL GROWTH AND AWARENESS
WITH TOM SANDBORN
This is a special weekend workshop in Gestalt processes with Tom Sandborn,
sponsored by Douglas College on the New Westminster campus.
About Tom Sandborn
Tom is a graduate of U.B.C., and has been working in the Vancouver area for the
past eight years. His training includes working with David Berg, one of Fritz
Perls' last students; Louis Paul, a California crisis intervention specialist;
and Julian Silverman from the Eselon Institute, Big Sur, California. He is the
co-founder of the Vancouver Emotional Emergency Centre and has been working in
individual and group development for the. past five years.
Notes from Tom, October 1975

"This kind of exploration doesn't take place in a vacuum. Through the workshop we'll
be taking time to examine and experiment with our styles of communtcatton, both
verbal and non-verbal. Encounter exercises will provide an opportunity to gtve

and receive feedback, to ‘see ourselves as others see us’. We'll be using

exercises from anti-sexist consciousness raising to examine the ways we've learned

to amputate and harness ourselves tn order to fit into restrictive sex-roles. 'Big
boys don't cry .. . when she says no she means maybe... act Like a lady', ete,"

"Group members are: encouraged to extend the spirit of expertmentation to the
leadership of the workshop - - to test against their cum feelings and judge which
exercises they'll do, which ones they'll skip. JI itke to see my workshops not as
a place where folke come to get something done to them, but as an opportunity for
parttetpants to discover and strengthen thetr capacity to foster their oum growth
and wholeness."
