JOHN (Rent-a-Duck) SMITH, Warden at Serpentine Fen for the past two years has tendered his resignation effective the end of November. Most ducks fly south for the winter... the smart ones overwinter in bird santuaries like the Fen. But Rent-a-Duck John is flying over the mountains to Saskatchewan where ducks are ducks... geese are geese... and the winters are white. John is going back to Prince Albert and will be taking a position with the Provincial Department of Natural Resources. Best of luck John, and mind you don't freeze your wattles. =30 =< DOUGLAS COLLEGE INTER OF FICE MEMO TO: MAD HATTER OATE: 4.11.74 FROM: Chris Johnson RE: Soccer Team On Saturday 26th October the Douglas College Soccer team travelled to Nanaimo to play Malaspina. Due to a cut back in budgets the crossing was rather damp, with Greg Merro at the oars and a disabled Ray Smith acting as a makeshift mast. The 74 hour crossing did little to enhance our chances over this well drilled professional like team. However playing our best game of the season we went down to a 4 - O defeat, by a team who are at the moment top of the league. Players who put up a meritable performance were Ralph Stevens, Glenn Whittingten, and our 4 spectators. Needless to say these people were excused the task of rowing home, although Linda Hall, one of our largest spectators did much to blow us across the Georgia Strait (sorry Linda). The team were met by the usual loved ones, and finally assembled at the Royal Towers for a post game rap. The team is now firmly entrenched in the last place in the Totem League, but as the actress said to the bishop "you can always improve"!
