The program has received accreditation by the Canadian College of Health Record Ad- ministrators. To enhance the state-of-the art char- acter of the program, a dedicated computer lab is being established, through the undertaking of a Joint Study Project with IBM. The 24 workstations will be networked and will be used extensively by the stu- dents in all aspects of the curriculum. Prism Hospital Software has donated their software package used by many of the Lower Mainland hospitals for the processing of health records. Three faculty will be transferring with the program, effective Septem- ber 1. There will be 44 FTE students enrolled, with some spaces available for part-time students. The actual physical location of the program is yet undecided. How- ever, as a result of renovations, space is expected to be available in the late summer, when the lab will be established. Chairside Dental Assisting Program This program also acquired dedi- cated computer equipment this semester that is used extensively within the laboratory/clinical set- ting to teach students the use of the computer within the dental office. A software package from Zadal, that is in use in many dental offices has been donated and is in full use. With the acquisition of this equip- quality. more closely simulate a reality- based environment and will increase the relevance of the students’ learning experiences. The program faculty are also plan- ning some post-basic programminy with Community Programs & Ser- vices using the equipment.
