The representatives’ visit to the College included a one-day program offered by College personnel on topics such as community outreach, industrial linkages and the College administrative system. The representatives also visited community colleges in other parts of Canada, as well as the UK, the US and Tanzania. Cutting College costs Got a good idea that would help cut College costs? The Financial Suggestions Review Committee is identifying cost- saving measures that do not impact on staff, faculty or administrative positions. Last year they received a large number of very useful suggestions, many of which were incorporated into the budget process. They are still looking for good ideas, as well as ideas about how things could be done differently around the College to cut costs. Egyptian Trek Winnie McKittrick of the Registrar's Office, Karen Nursing students promote good health General Nursing students whip up a nutritious fruit drink in the healthy nutrition booth at the “= 4 annual Health Fair, held last month at the New Westminster Campus. Students treated visitors to a wealth of information on topics covering health issues such as drinking and driving, eating disorders and body image, and stress management. McKittrick of Student Development and Carmen Mahood of Humanities spent 10 days in Egypt in March with the College’s student delegation to the model United Nations in - Cairo. According to Karen, who also attended the model UN as a student delegate, “the debates went well and the people were great. The days flew by as if they had wings. The museum was very cool, the pyramids were great, and the drivers were insane.” Grandma Georgina Congratulate Georgina Ferguson of the Registrar's Office the next time you see her — she’s a proud new grandma! Born March 7 to Georgina’s daughter Karen, Shea Morag Johnston is reportedly “beautiful and looks just like her mom,” according to her daddy Desmond. Georgina is looking forward to holding her new granddaughter on April 1. Staff Moves In Finance, Mavis Blanchard moves from auxilliary to regular in the position of Accounts Receivable/Cashier. Rita Marchioro comes back to the New West Campus to move into the new regular position of Calling all artists The Art Exhibit Committee is celebrating the College's 30th anniversary with a special show in January 2000. They'll be featuring art from the College community — staff, students, faculty and alumni — on the theme of Learning in its most general sense. If youd like to submit a work of art, please send the following to Lorna McCallum, Dean of Language, Literature and Performing Arts, by October 15,:1999; * a brief artist’s statement, including an indication of the relationship of the work(s) you are submitting to the theme of learning your name and affiliation with the College on a separate sheet photos or slides of the work(s) being submitted, including title, medium and approximate size Successful submissions will be chosen by the Committee on the basis of space available in the Amelia Douglas Gallery, and the cohesiveness of the exhibit as a whole.
