Sport Shorts Soccer Going into last weekend, the men’s soccer team hoped to wrap up a spot in the post season with a win over the Capilano Blues. Unfortunately for the Royals, Capilano had other plans in mind, soundly beating Douglas 4-0. The Royals only hope of a post season berth is to beat OUC by seven goals next weekend and hope that Capilano loses or is held to a 0-0 draw by last place Fraser Valley. The women’s team had a much tougher game on their hands, as Capilano came into the match ranked 4th in Canada. The Blues proved that their ranking was no fluke, hanging a 6—2 defeat on the home squad. Amber Crombach and Shannon McDonald found the back of the goal for the Royals, who, with a I—S record, aren't going to the promised land for a second straight year. Basketball Last weekend the women's basketball team went into the Pre- Season Cariboo Classic in Kamloops looking to improve on their second place finish at the Capilano tournament a week before. Friday, the women opened the tournament with a win, beating Malaspina 47—43 behind Carrie Rogers and Kim Nieszner’s 14 and 7 points respectively. Saturday did not go as well for the Royals, as they fell 81-74 to the SAIT Trojans from Alberta. Carrie Rogers scored 20 points and Nicole Johansen added 14 in a losing effort. Sunday, the Royals rebounded to defeat the host Cariboo Sun Demons 62—S8. Audrey Curran and Carrie Rogers dropped 14 points on UCC as the _ Royals seem well prepared for the upcoming BCCAA season. For her efforts Carrie Rogers was named to the tournament all-star team for the second straight week. The men’s team took a week off the tournament circuit to play an exhibition game against the Seattle Blue Angels at Capilano College. The Royals put up a good effort, but fell 110-76 to their oppo- nents from south of the border. Photo of the week A large dryer in a non-specific plywood mill Wanna write *bout it?
