INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE /JUNE 5, 1990 Clearing the Air Douglas College will become a “clean air” campus on August Ist. Here’s a sampling of reactions from smokers and non-smokers towards the new policy. “I don’t mind If people smoke In the concourse, but it gets really cloudy when they smoke in the cafeteria. It’s like smog. There should be one place in the College where people can smoke.” Patrick Gilagan, 2nd year business student, non-smoker “| think the new policy is a good Idea. All the smoke In the cafeteria comes over to the non-smoking side. You have to go though the smoking area to get your food.” John Richardson, 2nd year business student, non-smoker “It’s a sign of the times. We smokers have to realize that we’re a dying breed. Bill Bell, Public Information Officer, smoker “It’s great, because I’ve been a non-smoker all my life, so | would like a smoke-free environment.” Wilda Noniewicz, Mail Clerk, non-smoker “| think It’s great. I’d like to quit smoking, and | don’t think other people should be subject to my smoke. It’s a disgusting habit.” Jennifer Whiteside, Student Society Resource Co-ordinator, smoker “It’s too bad. I’m not too happy about it. From a professional point of view, I guess! have to support it. But it’s my freedom. Some people like to talk. | like to smoke. I have a right to smoke.” Fadi Baydoun, Security Supervisor, smoker
