The start of a new semester not only marks the beginning of new classes and the anticipation of midterms and essay assignments, but also the beginning of the student budget crunch. They are not giving books away at the bookstore and the cost of tuition is continually increasing. This means that student have to be savvy with their savings. Making a monthly budget definitely helps. Keeping track of your debits and credits helps you to stay on track and stay afloat financially throughout the semester. Whether you took a summer semester or worked over the break, making those saved dollars last can be a bit of a task. Unfortunately, loans and debts go hand in hand and there is nothing worse than being in a big pill of debt on graduation day. So for those who aren’t fortunate enough to have mommy and daddy pay their way through college, there are options out there. Consider taking advantage of the awards, bursaries and scholarships that Douglas has to offer. On the flip side, for those leaving the college, there are also many graduation awards available to students who have achieved academic excellence during their time here at Douglas. If however you are not here for the first time or are leaving anytime soon, don’t worry, there is something for you too. If you have an outstanding grade point average of 3.5 and have completed at least 12 graded credits at Douglas, there are a number of scholarships available. If your grade point average is good but not that good, awards are offered to those who have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA.
