The students will be involved in an English language immersion program at D.C. from May 15 to June 23. Host families will receive $240 for providing accommodation, breakfast and dinner for the six weeks, explained the Bursary Program Coordinator, Bev Mercer. The program is a federally-sponsored bursary plan directed toward French students who want to learn English by immersion in the language. "The goal of the program is not only to expand the students' ability to speak English, but also to give them an apprecia- tion of B.C. and its people," explained Ms. Mercer. "We feel this would be achieved by placing each student with a family so that they will return to Quebec with an insight into the culture of B.C. and with warm recollections of our Western hospital- ity," she added. Families would be expected to welcome the students as members of the family, and include them in their activities, although occasional weekend outings will be arranged for the students. Lunches would be provided by the college Mondays through Fridays. Anyone interested in helping out by hosting the students should contact Ms. Mercer at Douglas College, at 588-4411, local 212% POSITIONS OPEN The Provincial Ministry of Recreation A Conservation is seeking applications for the following positions in its Recreation and Fitness Branch: Chief Research and Policy Analysis Chief of Field Services Chief of Outdoor Recreation Chief Sports and Fitness All positions require preferably an appropriatĀ¢ Master's Degree and extensive management experience.
