PLAYWRIGHT TO VISIT DOUGLAS COLLEGE silica - MICHAEL COOK will be visiting Douglas on Friday, 5 December in the New Westminster 4-room complex from 10 to 12 noon. Michael Cook, a professor in the English Department at Memorial University, has had 20 of his plays produced on the radio, TV and stage. Recent publications and theatre productions include: COLOUR THE FLESH THE COLOUR OF DUST (Simon ยง Pierre, Toronto) 'TILN' included in ENCOUNTER, Stud es in Media (Methuen) HEAD, GUTS AND SOUNDBONE DANCE (Breakwater Books, Ltd) JACOB'S WAKE (Tallon Books) He has also had "Apostles for the Burning" and "On the Rim of the Curve" produced by the CBC. Mr. Cook notes that he has wanted to write for as long as he can remember. "Wanted to be a poet. Failed. Wanted to be a novelist. Failed. Ultimately wrote for the area I'd been involved in, with varying degrees of proficiency, for twenty years." Cook's associated activities include: Director for Memorial University Dramatic Society; The St. Johns Arts and Culture Centre; Critic and Columnist, St. Johns Evening Telegram; Contributing Editor, Canadian Theatre Review; Founder and Artistic Director (1974), St. Johns Summer Festival of the Arts.
