Big Apple musical scheduled for Open House °90

“as a musical bite of the Big
Apple at Open House ’90 this
fall.

The Douglas College Theatre
Department is staging a produc-
tion of the popular 1950’s musical
Guys And Dolls, which is set in
New York City.

Dorothy Jones, Coordinator of
the Theatre Department, will
direct the production, and she’s al-
ready looking forward to opening
night on November 9th.

“From the standpoint of musi-
cals, it has among the best music,”
says Jones. “It really is fun. Damon
Runyon managed to capture just
what these people were like when
he wrote it.”

The play will be a main attrac-
tion at Douglas College’s Open
House on November 16 and 17.

“There are a lot of production
numbers, so there’s an oppor-

tunity to use a lot of students,”
says Jones. “In choosing a show,
that’s one of the things we like to
do.”

Because the show has so many
songs, Jones is looking for good
singers. “Some of the second-year
students are getting ready al-
ready,” she says. “Auditions begin
right after Labour Day.”

Any musical production is dif-
ficult to achieve, but Jones says
that Guys And Dolls is even trickier
because of the accents required for
the show. “Some of the actors have
to have a fairly broad Brooklyn ac-
cent,” she adds.

The Douglas College Theatre

tion.

Centre

Through a summer employ-
ment project, a resource centre con-
taining information on disabilities
was established in Disabled Stu-
dent Services. Connie Green, a stu-
dent in the CSSW program
designed and implemented the
centre.

The information collected has
been divided into the following
