IMPORTANT INFORMATION About The DSU Student Benefit Plan DOUGLAS STUDENTS’ UNION Local 18 — Canadian Federation of Students Effective September 1%, 2013 The DSU Student Benefit Plan will be provided through Great-West Life myStudentPlan.ca Now that coverage is offered through Great-West Life are there any changes to the current benefits? Yes! Benefit Enhancements have been made to the current plan. DSU has added Vision Coverage! Additionally the plan has integrated BC Fair Pharmacare into the Prescription Drug Benefits. By coordinating the benefits from BC Fair PharmaCare and the Student Plan, many enrolled students will enjoy lower out-of-pocket charges for their eligible prescription drugs. How dol use the plan? Please visit the DSU Office to obtain your NEW myBenefits Card. Students must complete a BC Fair Pharmacare application prior to obtaining your myBenefits Card. What if | already have coverage? Coordinating Coverage: If you are an eligible student and have comparable coverage you may wish to coordinate the plans. Benefits under the two plans can be coordinated to increase your coverage up to 100% of the actual expense(s) incurred. Waiving coverage. Eligible students who have comparable health and dental coverage may opt out of the student plan. Each student is given the opportunity opt out of the student plan each year. All opt out requests must be completed online through the Douglas College student account portal and must be received by the specified deadline. Students will not be able to opt out of coverage at any other point during the school year. Approval of the opt out will result in the plan fee being credited. Opt out requests do not carry forward. Students wanting to opt out of the student plan must complete the opt out process each year, prior to the applicable deadline. Can | add my family? Each year, students are given the opportunity to purchase family coverage for their spouse and/or dependent(s) by completing an application form through the DSU Office and paying the family coverage fee. All family add on forms and applicable fees must be received by the applicable deadline. Dependents can only be covered if the student themselves are covered by the plan. For further details regarding family coverage, visit mystudentplan.ca or stop by the DSU Office. Family Coverage MUST be renewed by the Student each benefit plan year.
