x DCSS t ater - combination of ealth. dent of the DCSS but was resigned from his posi- tion under the “abandonment of duties” clause in the society's new bylaws, specifically, Bylaw XIl, section 2, which states, “Representative Committee members absent from three regular ; scheduled Representative Committee meetings in a semester without valid reason, as determined by a two thirds majority vote of the Representative Committee, shall be deemed to have delivered their resignation.” In the old Constitution, Bylaw X, séction 2 read, “Representative Committee members absent from three or more consecutive meetings without valid reason...,” a minor, but significant, change with major consequences for Seaweed. An anonymous source on the Representatives Committee says that Seaweed was “not allowed” to send regrets orally to the meetings he was unable to attend, and any written reasons for not attending were not submitted within a certain time limit. Seaweed confirms this, saying, “I phoned about the meetings all week and left four or five mes- sages before I got a call back.” He says he missed one meeting because he had to work, and another because of illness. Seaweed says that his doctor thinks the stress from the DCSS job has had a detrimental affect on his health, and if he hadn't been removed from office, he would probably have had to resign anyway.
