Mad Hatter A Douglas College Newsletter $B | September 12, 1985 DISPLAYS AND ILLUSTRATIONS Something exciting happened in the Biology department of Douglas College this summer. Two art students put together a series of displays and illustrations for use in the community and the College. Lorraine Jolin, from Emily Carr College of Art, and Sherida Levy Co of U.B.C. looked on their summer work project as a great way to further their careers and help other students at the same time. The illustrations, which the two worked on will be used in college textbooks during the 1985 academic year. The idea behind the project, funded by the federal/provincial Challenge ‘85 program, was to help keep down the cost of a college education. "Before I started this, I wanted to be an animator," said Jolin. "But now that I've learned something about Biology, and enjoyed the work, I'm thinking of taking a Medical Illustrations program." And for Levy, who still has her eyes set on a more traditional art career, the project provided some valuable professional experience. The work mostly consisted of illustrating biology manuals; this involved the production of diagrams, graphs, and illustrations based on material from textbooks and other sources.
