Following on the heels of the National Art Gallery’s recent purchase of a magnificent painting by Thomas Hart Benton (STRIPE), Douglas College for an outstanding, if extremely large, painting that consists mainly of one wide red stripe. As Rowan points out, the Committee’s acquisition is roughly Arts Exhibition Committee takes pleasure in announcing the purchase of a similiar — although smaller — painting called "The In Thing." The painting is valued at $50,000 and represents the first of a collection to be ac- quired by the College. "No price is too high for great art," says Helen Rowan, chairperson of the Douglas College Arts Exhibition Com- mittee. "That’s why the Douglas College Arts Exhibi- tion Committee had no qualms about spending similar, except, of course, that the stripe is black. Unfortunately, adds Rowan, the painting is too valuable to be shown unat- tended, but "The In Thing" may be viewed upon request in the library. "Special view- ings can be arranged by con- tacting our Committee beforehand," says Rowan. Rowan says the painting is a good investment.
