David came into our office one day late in January, asking to speak to someone in private. After a long conversation, during which we spoke of many of the things he touches on in the following article, we agreed to print what could be considered a beginning to his personal manifesto. It is im- portant to note that he hopes to attain his goals by the end of the century, and he hopes to do so with the help of our generation, especially students. This is a vision of an alter- native future to the one we are now facing, one with distinct possibilities. David L. Rose-Williams-Lofdahl Every once in a while, an in- credible idea comes along that changes the perspective of the whole world. All around the world, right now, people are standing up and revolting against what is wrong with this world. At times violence erupts, proving just how intense our emotions and commitments are be- coming. We are willing to die for a better life. Quite simply, it’s called peace. Humankind’s survival into the fu- ture is our greatest concern. A great many factors are critical when sur- vival is questioned. As nations debate unendingly on the concept of acceptable standards of environ- mental destruction, large multi-na- tional corporations play god with the planet and all life, bringing us all perilously closer to either an ac- cidental annihilation by nuclear weapons or We now are seeing what it is that we must protect ourselves against. History shows us, all around the world, what we must never fall into again. In China, as well as in Russia and in Eastern Europe, in South Africa, in Argentina and Brazil and in Central Africa, Ethiopia and the Sudan, the atrocities occurring show us how the errors of our global management system are manifesting themselves. I could go on into detail about the injustices and abuses against both the en- vironment and the people who have followed their ancestors, but I won’t. You already know. Governments are supposed to be helping to alleviate the problems. Instead they all are con- trolling and perpetuating the condi- tions that appall the citizens of nations around the world. Govern- ment argues that by some Governments are ‘ey operate in chance bac- teriological change in supposed to be the people’s best interests. Is it in our best interest the planet helping to alleviate to advocate and brought on by the neglect of governmen ts and corporations who say that to clean up the damage is too expen- sive and therefore not economical- ly wise for them. And they continue to pollute the earth to death. As one of five billion and some odd human beings dealing with life in the nineteen nineties, I too am praying that we will not destroy anything else or senselessly kill anyone anymore. But that does not look at all possible considering the way the world is being governed. Granted, not one leader anywhere has spoken of a new way. Today’s leaders lead some people, but not all of the people. Today’s leader leads like-minded people who have realized a common need. What the world needs today is a leader who will show us all a new way. A way that will sit well inside us all. A way that will feel right and one that in- sists upon doing the right thing. From birth we all have had to accept without question and without explanation the course of humanity that had been chosen so many, many years ago when the earth was huge and its peoples were isolated from each other. As we enter out of the dark ages of famines and unbearable poverty and stand poised before the third millennia, we do so with the sad knowledge that for so long we were so wrong. Stepping into the next century we carry with us a new awareness of our duties and responsibilities. the problems. encourage war and so called *police actions’? Is it in our best interest, yours and mine, or the in- terests of faceless multi-national conglomerations to maintain poverty and whole nations of starv- ing human beings for individual financial gains? We do not advocate wars of any kind. They disgust us and make us wonder at our leaders’ motives. We do not encourage poverty. I’ve never heard anyone say that pover- ty is good and right.(Although I’ve never had the opportunity to sit in the back rooms and listen to the people who arranged world wars and arbitrarily condemned whole races of people to generations of oppression.) We cannot believe the statements these few people have made in the past because what they have said in public, at press con- ferences etc., has been completely different from their actions. We cannot applaud deceit. A true world-wide peace is what this world wants. The existing social order is insulting, de- humanizing and criminal. Sustaining this order in any way after the truth has been unveiled will be the greatest crime against humanity in all of the history of the Earth. Peace for everyone. Every child; every woman and every man, regardless of where they live their lives. This is what all people on earth truly want. All people wish to live in peace, without fear. Never before have the people of the Earth known more about their world. They have seen enough and now choose not to continue perpetuating the killing of life, be it in the sea, on land, or in the air. All around the world, ordinary people are protesting and at times violence breaks out. Ordinary children are facing armed troops and it is being seen more and more, to the point where their deaths shock us out of our complacency. Those with nothing to lose and everything to gain co-ordinate their efforts in an attempt to bring about a change to fairness and an ultimate peace. It should not surprise anyone that the Chinese govern- ment is the leader today in per- verted demonstrations of power: they have over 5000 years ex- perience to call upon. The murder of the students expressing a desire for freedom has made the citizens of the Earth quietly re-evaluate the conditions that we all endure. "Please, someone, save our China," a quote from an old women who witnessed the slaughter, and a young girl who participated in the actual demonstrations and sur- vived. It is now seen as a plea for China and a cry to save the Earth from darkness. Peace will only be attained when we freely choose to continue our lives without ever making money the most important object on earth again. Each and every person alive today anywhere deserves any and all of the products that through human intelligence we have created for ourselves. That is our true right as human beings. Noth- ing should ever be withheld for a profitable gain. This only disrupts the peace between people, let alone nations. With money and credit as the standard for survival, there will always be someone who will offer enough money to someone else to fight or kill. Those who do the killing are told it is necessary to fight and kill those who demonstrate for peace in their lives. They will kill those who stand up against oppression to protect the social order. To main- tain the social order of the super rich, the rich and middle income families and poor and those with absolutely nothing and no future. That is their social order. That is their peace. They call peace an ac- ceptance of their social order. And it is for our own good, we are told. The end of the social order is near. All people will soon live in peace, when the only true way has been seen. I really hope that a peaceful transition can be achieved. No one should die for the way we have behaved and are behaving. Because it is not our fault that the world was set up this way. We were born into this mess. Instinctively, we know that this is all wrong. This is not peace that we live in today. Peace will only be attained when all around the world, we free- ly choose to continue our lives without ever again making money, the most important object on the face of the earth. If you can give it all away, you can truly have it all forever. When we as human beings have eliminated all forms of money and credit, we will be rid of it all and we will then be able to have anything that we will need. When
