SPORTS $50,000 Smark-a-roonies! CSRW Announcement The Centre for Sport, Recreation and Wellness' Athletic department is offering Douglas College specta- tors an opportunity to win to $50,000. Yes, this is real cold hard cash. The “So You Think You Can Putt” contest has generated a lot of interest from students and the surrounding New Westminster community. “I thought it was a joke,” said Mike Bauer, New Westminster resident. “So I can actually win 50 grand?” he continued. Yes, and so can everyone who can stroke a putt on our indoor green. mclennonb@douglas.bc.ca The contest gives spectators four chances to win prizes and or cash, the biggest prize being the $50,000 smack-a-roonies. Can you say, “Payoff your student loans?” During the half time of the basketball games and after the second game of volleyball matches, one lucky spectator's name is drawn for the opportunity at the big prize. In order to get the chance at the big prize, contestants have three putts, all of which have an opportunity to win something cool. Here's how the whole thing works. Each contestant is given three putts, regardless. The first is a 10-foot putt, which will win you a $10 gift certificate. Dropping the ball in the hole from 20 feet is the second putt opportunity, and will win the contestant a $50 gift cer- tificate. The third putt, from 40 feet, places a whopping $100 into the hands of the contestant who successfully sinks the ball. Now, the contestant who is successful at making all three previous putts has the chance to win $50,000, if they can sink a 50-foot putt. “T think it's a great opportunity for students, employees, and members of the community to have an opportunity to win a big prize” said Athletic Director, Lou Rene Legge, who has offered other successful contests in the past at Douglas athletic events. Past contests have included the “$10,000 Half Court Shot” and the “Win Your Tuition” contest, which gave stu- dents who attended basketball and volleyball an oppor- tunity to have their student tuition fees paid for in full. So, if you have tucked your clubs away for the win- ter, at least pull out your putter and keep your short game sharp. The contest will be offered at every Douglas College home game and tickets can be pur- chased at the door, one for $1 or three for $2. Proceeds go towards the Athletic Endowment, which help support Douglas College students. Say WHAT?
