News News Shorts By Nikalas Kryzanowski, News Editor Douglas to host Aboriginal reconciliation speakers series Starting February 26, Douglas College will be hosting a series of talks on Aboriginal Reconciliation with the aim of fostering greater interracial understanding and remedying the hardships faced by aboriginals throughout BC’s history. Issues such as land claims, treaties, health care, aboriginal education, and BC history will all be addressed by four speakers. The event begins at 2:30 pm in the Performing Arts Theatre at the New Westminster Campus with the Honourable Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, giving opening remarks. Owner of destroyed restaurant found fead The RCMP has confirmed the death of the co-owner of a destroyed Vancouver fast food restaurant. Taco Del Mar on Broadway exploded last week from an act of arson that also destroyed the Starbucks next door and damaged five other buildings. The body of Manjeet Kaur Nandha, 42, was found Friday in Howe Sound. An apparent suicide note was left in her car stating that the suspicion swirling around her and her family was too much to bear. The suspect in the explosion remains in hospital with severe burns covering 40 per cent of his body. Harjit and Manjeet Nandha had earlier stated that they knew of no enemies in the Sikh community and did not owe anyone money except for the bank. Wal-Mart strikes decisive blow to HD-DVD format Toshiba has conceded defeat in the battle between its HD-DVD format and Sony’s Blu-Ray discs. Last week, retail giant Wal-Mart stated that it would no longer sell HD-DVD discs in its stores. This decision mirrors the decision by mail order site Netflix, Target and rental giant Blockbuster Inc.
