The Douglas College golf team made us all proud with their first win of the season last month against Skagit Valley Community College. Trevor Van Hoof, Dennis Ling, Bob Elliot, Blair Riddell and Kurt Dalphond won in singles play at the Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club. Green thumbs up The Institute of Urban Ecology would like to thank the City of Coquitlam and all the volunteers who pitched in for the May community planting at Mariner Way and Como Lake. Twenty people came out to plant over 300 native perennials, do some weeding and trim back some, of the more aggressive species. Thanks also to those who provided refreshments: Port Coquitlam’s Bread Garden, the Great Canadian Bagel on North Road, Safeway on Austin Avenue and the PoCo Tim Horton’s. Author! Author! Congratulations go out to David Zieroth on the launch last month of his latest book of poetry, How I Joined Humanity at Last. Staff changes Marty Sulek of the Foundation has left the College to join his wife and attend grad school in Indiana. Glenn Ellingson is the new Senior Duplicating Operator in the Printshop, replacing Arnie Driver. Jamie Michael is the new Supervisor, Instructional Computing & Desktop Services, as Donna McGee-Thompson becomes permanent as Learning Centre Services Coordinator at the David Lam Campus. Over in Commerce and Business, Mary Hatch has become permanent in Co-Op Ed, while in Science Bob Hirtle is the new Lab Supervisor for Biology, effective August 31.
