Dr. Richard Kitson, Musicologist and instructor of Music History and Theory at Douglas College, has done ex- tensive Verdi research at the American Institute of Verdi Studies in New York, and was able to unravel the complicated history of the opera’s genesis and composition for the first time. The lecture will con- centrate on the traditions of Italian operatic forms and styles with emphasis on Verdi’s ap- plication of these traditions to AIDA.
