Douglas College Board January 21, 1982. hee I have been charged with drafting a protocol document, which is now under informal review by the administrations of most lower mainland post-secondary institutions. In the near future, I expect that the Board will be presented with the Douglas College administration's proposals in this regard. The Furnishings and Equipment Budget has undergone an extensive review and analysis, and will be presented to Ministry officials on Tuesday, January 26, 1982. I have had a recent meeting with Dr. R.H. Pridham of Kwantlen College to discuss informally, the differentiation of Kwantlen Occupational Programs from Douglas. Communication between Douglas and Kwantlen continues to be supportive and frequent. The Minister has approved the remaining $9,025,000 for the com- pletion of our permanent building. Tne dental/nursing issue has created an immediate construction problem which will be costly. The Board will be kept informed. Internal Matters - Education Deve lopment The Governance System is now in being. The “finishing touches" were made at a College-wide Assembly in the first week after the New Year. Within about six weeks, the College Board should start receiving formal proposals for policy and planning, channelled through the College-wide Policy and Planning Committee. As soon as that Committee has its first meeting, I will arrange for the introduction of this Committee to the Board. The Five-Year Plan is in progress, and the first two chapters have undergone review by the Education and Services Committee of the Board. All divisions are well into their Five-Year Plan activities. At this time, it appears that May 30, 1982 would be an appropriate deadline for completion and approval by the Board. Internal Matters - Labour Relations At present, as in the previous months of this fiscal year relation- ships with our three constituencies remain very positive and co-operative. We are dealing with a grievance and a complaint at this time. Should difficulties arise in either of these connections, the Finance, Facilities and Personnel Committee of the Board will be made aware of them.
