The College is gearing up for another busy fall semester, even though the dog days of August never really arrived, and our ‘wet’ coast summer is drawing to a close. Any- way, here’s some of what your colleagues have been up to... Summer getaways... Renate Brown (Facilities) had a jackpot holiday in Reno...she won $1,000 on her first day at the slots. She said it was the best holiday she’s ever had! Barb Sek- Hon (English) took a trip to India, Wendy Waidson (Child, Family and Community Studies) and her family visited Mickey in Disneyland, Henrick Persad (Science & Math) went to a family reunion in the Caribbean, Al Harms (Science & Math) toured Kenya, Paul Taylor (Science & Math) took a trip to Ireland, and Bob Hirtle, Safdar Kakar and Al Lawson (also from Science & Math) all toured Europe during the summer. Student Society Vice-President (Exter- nal) Dave Seaweed had the honor of making the first withdrawal from the new bank machine installed in the concourse last month. am’ Tw Rice rains during the summer... Wedding bells rang for several staff and faculty members around the College. Shamsa Rahemtullah (Biology); Jean- Louis Girard (Computing Science); Wesley Snider (Physics); Jennifer Kirkey (Physics); Kevin Sanders (CFCS); Bruce Livingstone (PIO); Su Anderson (Facilities) and Leah Ponting (Registrar’s Office) all took vows this summer. Best wishes to them and their new spouses. A member of the MOB... The College has its own unofficial MOB, with the summertime nuptials taken by many daughters. MOB (mothers of the bride) include Phyllis Mitchell in Community Programs & Services, Diane Emmerich in Psychiatric Nursing, June Anderson in the Bookstore, Tina Perret in General Nursing and Marie Bell, Psychiatric Nursing Instructor. Supporting D.C. sports... Dining, dancing, travelling around town and supporting Douglas College sports at the same time! Congratulations to Kathy Rai in the Reg- istrar’s Office, who had a six-pound baby boy on August 7. Betty Emery (Child, Family and Community Studies) became a first-time grandmother, thanks to daughter Trisha and new grandson Johnathan Douglas. A new addition to Psychiatric Nursing instructor Anna Helewka’s fam- ily this summer was two baby Ilamas. Anna and her husband AI raise llamas on their property in Whonnock. Registrar’s restocking... The Registrar’s Office welcomes Shahnaz Darayan as the Admissions Officer during Kathy Rai’s maternity leave. Other office moves include Vicki Condon who is now the Graduation Secretary and Denise Lauritano-Saplywy who replaces Vicki in International Admissions. Get well soon... The College sends best wishes for a speedy recovery for Marlene Howey from the Thomas Haney Centre and Eve- lyn Terada from Community Programs & Services, who are both on long-term dis- ability leave. Shuffles in shipping... Su Anderson in Shipping is taking a one- year leave of absence to fly Down Under with her new husband. Su’s last day is Sep- tember 10 and the Shipper/Receiver taking her place will be Michael Cook. @ Cakes with candles... September birthday wishes go out to Connie Frick and Devona Davies in Purchasing, who celebrate one day apart in mid-September. Birthday greetings also to a certain Administrative Assistant in the deans’ area who turns a big four-oh! Cash flow a go... The bank machine is up and running on Level 2 across from the security booth. The only banking action allowed at the Cash Stop is withdrawals! A little bit richer...
