The stand-out of the Eighty- sixers’ defense was Jeff Skinner who shadowed Mahdavikia for the entire game. Eighty-sixers goalie Paul Dolan made some great saves late in the first half to keep it at I-0. Both teams’ passing in the first half was not crisp. They were using the long ball too much and there wasn't enough short/high percent- age passes. The partisan Persian crowd was chanting and cheering like 200,000 people and not 2,000. When it was I—O for the Eighty-sixers they were chanting “We want a goal, we want a goal Persopolis delivered in the 60th minute when substitute Edmond Bezic beat Paul Dolan with a shot in the bottom left corner to tie up the game at one. The fans were upset at the referee because they thought the referee was too harsh on the Persopolis players. The referee needed a police escort to get out of the stadium. Fans were throwing pop cans and bot- tled water at him. The Eighty-sixers should be proud of their performance in the game. There were many standouts in the game — forward Chris Clarke and defender Jeff Skinner contributed a lot. This game should boost the Eighty-sixers’ confidence just in time for the playoffs to start. 86ers in action Dave Tam Photo items at the Student Society Business Office in the student Afraid of speaking in public?
