4 « Mainstage theatre, art show upcoming They'll be cooking onstage during Douglas College’s upcoming production of Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Literally. An entire Italian dinner is prepared and eaten during the performance of this dramatic comedy, and Director Cheryl Matheson says the spice for the sauce comes from the strug- gle between traditional values and modern ones, between parents from the old world (Italy), and children born in the new. "On Saturday they make the ragout. On Sunday at dinner there’s an explosion, and Mon- day is the day of resolution," says Matheson. "It’s quite a tempestuous three-day period. It’s a comedy, but it’s dramatic and heart-warming." The message, says Matheson, is that if you’re courageous enough to communicate honestly with someone, it leads to a deeper relationship. Saturday, Sunday, Monday runs from Nov 13-15 and 17-21 at 8 pm, with a 2 for 1 matinee on Nov 15 at 2 pm in the Performing Arts Theatre. For information and tickets, call the Douglas College Box Office at 527-5488. Art Show Urlike Eberling fled with her family from East Germany before she was two, just as the Berlin Wall was going up. Despite the early flight, or perhaps because of it, she says her painting is still influenced by the darker forces of German art and history. "In my work, I try to explore what lies underneath the surface, to look at what might be in our subconscious and how we relate to the environment and the spiritual," says Ebeling, who also teaches German at Douglas College. Her show, called Under Their Skin, opens in the Amelia Douglas Gallery on November 5. The public is invited to a reception with the artist in attendance on November 5 from 7 to 9 pm. The show runs to December 2. & Human Resource Development Workshops To register for free Human Resource Development Workshops call 5440.
