Therefore, it has, through motion of the College Management Committee, declared its intent to recommend to the Board that the entire building be "non-smoking", effective January 1, 1989. As this is a change in policy, and not just an alteration of the Procedures/Rules Statement, Board approval will be required. The intent of this memorandum is to advise employees of the next step in limiting smoking in the building, effective May 1st, and to provide advance warning of a major change which will occur in nine months, when smoking will be banned throughout the building. We are prepared to do all we can to help employees adjust to these changes. To that end, Management Committee has requested the Health & Safety Committee to investigate the possibility of offering workshops for employees who would like help to stop smoking. Further information will be provided when it becomes available. A Special Note To Students While the above message is primarily directed at employees of the College, the changes impact on students, as well. For this reason, we are providing a copy to the Student Society, and to the Other Press in the hope that they will be able to give the same notice of the coming changes to students - particularly the change to a smoke free building on January 1, 1989.
