Acknowledging distinguished service A new Douglas College award program will celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of College employees. ‘The President’s Distinguished Service Awards will be given to those who have contributed to the betterment of the College community. The awards will recognize up to three employees for outstanding contributions to the learning and working environment at Douglas College. All employees are eligible for the awards and can be nominated by any Douglas College employee. Selection criteria for award recipients include: accomplishments that benefit the Douglas College community; displays of dedication, integrity and commitment to high standards; acts of inspiration and response to students and co-workers; and service to the community both on and off campus. All nominations must be made in writing and forwarded to the President's Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee. Deadline for nominations is September 15. The awards will be presented at the Annual Employee Recognition Reception, normally held in the Fall of each year. Submissions for Shanghai symposium sought ‘The Shanghai Administration Institute (SAI) is offering Douglas College faculty the chance to present at an international symposium in Shanghai in November. ‘The SAI is accepting submissions on the topic of “Karl Marx’s Capital and its Contemporary Value” to be held November 2 to 6. The primary focus of this international symposium is to examine the relevance and value of Marx’s work and his effect on contemporary societies in the West and East. Academic works in the areas of Philosophy, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Social Sciences, Psychology, Legal Studies and Students get connected The Office for New Students hosted students, family and friends at its annual Connect Event information fair held Wednesday May 30. Participants explored all aspects of Douglas College programs, facilities and services. Human Services are being sought for presentation. Douglas College will provide support for up to two faculty members to attend the symposium to present papers. Presenters will have all international travel costs, room and board, conference fees and cultural activities paid for by Douglas College and the SAI. Applicants must also submit a plan, approved by their dean, for coverage of their teaching responsibilities during their absence.
