Integrated Curriculum brings core element to programs They’re celebrating in the Department of Child, Family and Community Studies - with good reason. After two years of preparation, this Sep- tember marks the beginning of integrated curriculum in six programs. It’s a move forward that benefits students by keeping future educational options open, and increasing their job prospects after graduation. "People no longer prepare for a life in one career. They need to be able to move, with a base of skills that prepares them for a @ ice: range of work and education options," says Bev Miller, Director of Child, Family and Community Studies. "The concept of career laddering and lad- dered curriculum increases the students’ ability to leave a program at the certificate level, go to work, and later return to complete a diploma. Part-time program choices will also be available for many students currently working." The programs are: Community Support Worker; Community Social Service Worker; Early Childhood Education; Home Support Worker; and Visual Language Interpreter Training. Students in these programs take a number of core courses that allows movement be- tween programs, permits increased contact Integrated Curriculum continued on page 2 Pinetree Way campus update Partnerships forming, architects appointed Planning for the Pinetree Way campus has moved into high gear. CJP Architects have been selected to de- sign the campus, while The Apra Group Ltd. is the space planner. Project manage- ment will be handled by John R. Lauder Ltd, and the on-site Project Manager will be West Graydon. Coinciding with these developments is the Coquitlam School District’s recent approval of a partnership between the School District and Douglas College to jointly work together in the construction of the Pinetree Way campus and secon- dary school complex in the Town Centre area of Coquitlam. Both partners are also actively involved in discussion with City of Coquitlam officials for expanding partnerships and building opportunities to include the Pinetree Way continued on page 2 inside INside...
