MAD HATTER PAGE 2 ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM PHYSICAL PLANT PARKING Imperial Parking Ltd., who are now in full control of the three parking levels, will be providing staff on site January 4, 5 'and 6, 1983 in order to handle the sale of monthly card passes. Their personnel will be available on Tuesday, January 4, be- tween 0900 and 1200 hours for the conven- lence of staff and faculty. Staff will also be available fram 0900 to approxi- mately 1800 hours on January 5 and 6 to participate in registration. The actual location of the sales booth will be deter- mined by the College Registrar as the reg- istration line is set up. Everyone is reminded that the current rate (75¢ per day maximum) will be discontinued at the end of December with the approved rate structure coming into effect on January 1. -This rate structure, published at both en- trances to the parking facility, is as follows: 25¢ per hour or portion $ 1.50 maximum daily rate to 1800 hours -50¢ flat rate for evenings $15.00 monthly $48.00 per four month semester It must be remembered that a $10.00 de- posit is required to ensure the return of the pass card which is issued for monthly and semester parking. This is a one time charge and will be returned when the card is eventually surrendered. A quick calcu- lation will show that on the basis of a 22 day month, most staff and faculty would pay $33.00 a month on a cash basis. The car pass at $15.00 per month is a consid- erable saving. The card pass permits entry to the P3 or lowest level of parking as well as to the upper level, Pl, and also permits exiting from all three levels. This will help to avoid the long entry and exiting lines which presently occur at peak traffic periods. Please be aware that $1.50 daily maximm applies only if the vehicle is left con- tinously in the car park. It is presently permissible to obtain a receipt for the 75¢ payment and return the same day. This privilege will not be extended in January once the full rates come into effect. In and out privileges are conferred on card passes only. Parking rates for motorcycles are 50% of the established rates for automobiles and other vehicles, while bicycles can be parked free. It is anticipated that a bicycle rack will be installed shortly to permit bicycles to be locked under same form of periodic surveillance. Parking lot operators will be in attend- ance from 0700 to 2300 hours Monday to Friday during the spring semester com- mencing January 4. Operators will be present on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays initially if the demand warrants. With a card pass it will be possible to enter and exit seven days per week. For all those parkers wishing to remain on a cash basis there is a coin machine which will permit exiting with the insertion of 50¢. This takes place at the Pl level only and is the recommended means of exiting the facility when no attendant is on duty. Special signage securing reserved spaces for the handicapped will be installed shortly on the Pl level immediately to the right of the west stair/elevator entry. Space initially will be available for three handicapped parkers. CAFETERIA CLOSURE The Douglas College cafeteria will be closed for the Christmas break between semesters, from December 20 to January 9 inclusive. Short order line will re-open on Monday, January 10, at 0800 hours.
