Magazine Award for Poetry.
"Fields" is published in the latest
issue of Event, 18/3.

Keefer was previously a
Writer-in-Residence at Douglas
College.

Gold and Silver winners will
be announced at the Thirteenth
Annual National Magazine
Awards in Toronto, April 27. Win-
ners receive $1000 and $500 respec-
tively.

Photographic skills for the
amateur photographer

Disappointed when your travel photos are NOT what you think you
took? Frustrated when photos of family events and other occasions are
less than terrific? This course is designed for the hobbyist and serious
amateur photographer who is looking to become more adept at taking
pictures technically and compositionally. Photographic topics such as
backgrounds, portraits, groupings, close-ups and scenics will be ex-
plored. The advantage and disadvantages of both flash and available
light photography will also be examined. There will be one assignment
utilizing colour negative or slide film.

Bring your camera.

Deborah Shackleton, photographer, designer, educator, is a graduate in
Photographic Arts from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. She has extensive ex-
hibition and publishing credits.

Create an Egg

An open competition with prizes totalling $740 is being organized
by the New Westminster Arts Council and the Hyack Festival Associa-
tion.

The event is being sponsored by the B.C. Egg Marketing Board and
the theme will be anything related to eggs. Eligible are traditional Uk-
rainian eggs, "innovative eggs", egg paintings and designs in fibre or
fabric, and hard sculpture (wood, papier mache, etc.)

Entry deadline will be Sunday Apri. *th. Entries may be delivered to
the Arts Centre, Queen’s Park, New Wesuninster between 12 noon and 4
p-m. Thursday, through Sunday, April 5-8. Prizes will be awarded on
Easter Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. in the Centennial Lodge, Queen’s Park.
Guidelines and registration forms may be obtained from the Arts Centre
(525-3244), Hyack Festival (522-6894) and the New Westminster Public
Library Reference Dept., or from any lower mainland arts council.

The entries will be on display in the Arts Centre Gallery April 10
through April 20. @
