New Labour Relations Manager joins Personnel Luciano Anjos is the new Labour Relations Manager at Douglas College. Luciano comes to Douglas College’s Personnel Department with many years of experience in human resources, mediation and conciliation, as well as private sector background in research and development and in the forestry industry. His new responsibilities will include chairing the BCGEU contract negotiations and interpreting both the BCGEU and DCFA collective agreements. Luciano describes himself as a collaborative worker and a parallel thinker. “T like to work collaboratively. The whole idea of mediation is to be able to look at things in a collaborative way, and work toward mutually beneficial agreements, rather than confrontational ways of dealing with issues. We’re all here in this place, with the same needs and the same drives pushing most people.” Luciano was born and raised in Vancouver. He completed a B.Sc. in Physics at UBC, and a diploma in management at BCIT. He finds some interesting differences between the private sector, where his experience lies, and the public sector. “I’m finding that the environment here is much more process-driven. That’s not bad or good -- it’s just different. The private sector is often only concerned with the end result and not enough with the process of how you get there. There are pluses and minuses to both sides. I try to find a balance.” Luciano lives in New Westminster with his wife Elspeth, a school teacher in Coquitlam. # Luciano Anjos joined the College as Labour Relations Manager in the Personnel Department in February.
