INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / JANUARY 30, 1990 Human Rights continued rights. But there are no guarantees, Baugh stressed, adding "they’re not absolute rights." Your Charter rights, he ex- plains, can be violated if the court decides it’s reasonably justified in a free and democratic society. In the course, Baugh will go through the Charter, looking at separate sections and how they work. "The Charter seems abstract," Baugh says, but is quick to point out its power. The Charter, afterall, is the supreme law of Canada. The course will also cover human rights acts. By taking the course Human Rights and Canadian Society, Baugh says class participants will find out "what rights they have and how to go about asserting them." # o Inside Douglas College is published weekly September through April and bi-monthly May through August by the Douglas College Public Information Office.
