I believe that all college personnel will find it helpful in understanding and assessing the college situation at this time. Bill Day A REPORT DOUGLAS COLLEGE wh ARCHIVE Reductions in Douglas College Educational Services and Offerings During the Current Year The College has experienced two major budget problems in the last six months: 1) The 1982/83 Operating Budget, made known to the College in May 1982, was 10% ($1,200,000) short of providing sufficient funds for the College to maintain the previous year's (1981/82) level.of service. The significant factor was inadequate funding for positions created partway through the 1981/82 year as a result of the College "split" into Douglas and Kwantlen Colleges. 2) A further reduction was made in the 1982/83 Operating Budget of $350,000 in July, 1982 under the Restraint II Program. The resulting impact on students this September (1982) has been assessed by a review of registration data: 1) Approximately 500 academic students who applied and were accepted were unable to register. 2) 577 academic students who did register were unable to register for all the courses they desired. Of these, only 265 took substitute courses. This resulted in 511 fewer academic course registrations than were desired by students. 3) 450 qualified students are on waiting lists for admission to applied programs of limited enrollment, and were unable to register.
