It’s the brainchild of Michael Strutt who teaches guitar at the College and Michael Dunn, the instructor of a program in stringed instrument construction. Both want to celebrate the music and history of the guitar, while highlighting the quality of their programs. “We have the most successful classical guitar program in the Lower Mainland,” says Strutt. “We want to celebrate that by being the first to hold a festival like this. I’m hoping it will become a yearly event.” Dunn’s guitar-building pro- gram, now in it’s fifth year, is not only successful, it’s unique. “It’s the only one in Canada,” he says. The program develops skills in the construction and repair of musical instruments for people who want to operate a business in that field, and for musicians in general. “A lot of musicians take the program just to learn more about guitars,” he says. “They’ve never found a guitar they liked, so they continued on next page |
