Anna Raffle Memorial Fund The Douglas College Foundation has set up a new fund in memory of long-time College employee Anna Raffle, who passed away March 30, 1996. In recognition of Anna’s love of music, a bursary fund has been established to support students in the music program at Douglas College. If you would like to contribute to the Anna Raffle Memorial Bursary, please drop by the Foundation Office (Room 4002) or call Alana Frymire at local 5360. | Events Calendar Amelia Douglas Gallery Light & Space by Cecilia Boisier May 29 - July 5 Opening Reception: June 6, 4-8 pm. That’s enough to go from Douglas College all the way to Stanley Park!” The problem, says Doyle, is that the permanent markers many instructors use cannot be washed off, and the acetate itself is not recyclable. “While it is necessary for instructors to make overhead notes for classes, the type of pen they use can make all the differerence in the world.” A switch to water-based pens, Doyle feels, is the only viable solution to the College’s continuing acetate consumption problem. Students were hired through CET to test-clean this year’s used rolls, but so far have met with no success in cleaning off the permanent ink. “Tt’s frustrating for them, and it’s frustrating for us to see so much non- biodegradable waste,” Doyle adds. “The real solution to this problem is prevention.” Watch for an awareness campaign and permanent marker trade-in program this fall. In the meantime, think green—use water-based pens when making overhead notes. Our environment is worth it.
